Travel like the glam squad with these beauty hacks for life on the road

Life on the road in Todos Santos, Mexico

Sharon Lee, Australia’s globe-trotting brow queen – whose clients include Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Meryl Streep – takes upwards of 50 long-haul flights a year, travelling the world for work and play, perfecting brows along the way. Who better, then, to ask for the ultimate beauty hacks for life on the road? We tracked down the queen of the glam squad after her recent adventure to Lapland to see the Northern Lights (read more about that here) and asked for her tried and tested tips for maximum lustre for wanderlusters. Read Sharon's 7 holy commandments of travel beauty below, then thank us later.

Sharon Lee’s 7 easy steps for glow to-go – check them off before you check in for your next adventure.

1. What’s your essential travel beauty kit?

I use a mixture of high-end and pharmacy products, but Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is a staple for me. Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Lotion is great all over, especially for feet and heels. La Prairie Anti-Ageing Night Cream is ultra-hydrating, and ASPAR (Australian-made botanically active spa products available in QANTAS business and first class) face mist is a must for any handbag as a little pick me up, or as a make-up refresher. Cucumber wet wipes always come in handy when travelling, as do saline one-use eye drops, which are a great refresher after a long-haul flight. Bye bye red eye.

2. What's the product you can’t leave home without?

Lip balm!

3. How do you maintain a beauty regimen when living out of a suitcase?

Keep it simple! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve overpacked and regretted it. Work out what you need and use every day. Pack just that, as well as one-use packaged masks for hair, face and feet. These things really do work a treat and take up next to no space.

4. Is there anything I can do before take off?

I like a deep cleanse with extractions and a week of at-home nightly light glycolic face masks (try the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask from MECCA) to ensure my skin is more receptive to moisture.

5. OK, now I’m on the plane, what’s the plan?

I like a pre-packaged foot mask inside a cotton sock for long-haul flights. It takes no time, is invisible to others and keeps feet soft. A rich salve, such as Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, is fabulous for multiple uses. Keep it handy for cuticles, lips, under eyes and even as a brow gloss. A mist packed with essential oils is good to use intermittently during your flight for skin hydration and to uplift or relax (depending on the oil blend). Finally, don’t forget your emery board. I have to know that if I get a knick I can deal with it there and then, plus it doubles as a sharpener for your eyebrow tweezers.

6. You are a well-seasoned traveller, most recently landing in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Lapland. What destinations do you keep returning to?

New York, Hawaii and Paris – all for different reasons. I really want to spend more time in Paris, I’m thinking of a month-long stint combining work and play. So far a place I’ve not been to, but want to investigate, is Chicago. I keep hearing great things.

7. Finally, who is your ultimate travel companion?

Different people for different reasons. My bestie Sami Lukis is always fun and so well travelled. My son Cody, because he’s as much of a foodie as I am, and I love to introduce him to new finds. My fantasy travel companion is Anthony Bourdain, for more reasons than one!
